Pirates to go abroad in striker search?

-

In their search for goals this season, Orlando Pirates are believed to be also looking out of South Africa to possibly add to coach Jose Riveiro’s squad.

Despite being praised by some for improvement under the Spanish coach this season, goalscoring has been a notable missing element in the progress of the Buccaneers. In four matches played so far in October (excluding Tuesday’s encounter with Golden Arrows), they have scored once after drawing thrice and losing once. Despite bringing back Kermit Erasmus, the Soweto giants’ struggles up front have continued, although the nippy marksman’s goal against AmaZulu FC should prove to be a confidence booster going forward.

According to sources, the club is not ruling out the possibility of bringing a striker from abroad, possibly in January or at the end of the season, to add to Riveiro’s arsenal and to increase the team’s chances of competing in the title race and in cup competitions. With Ghanaian striker Kwame Peprah appearing to be unsettled at Bucs and being linked with an exit due to his lack of regular game-time, and with Terrence Dzvukamanja said to be facing an uncertain future, a foreign space could soon open for another potential addition to the squad, depending on the technical team’s plans in the coming weeks.
