Jali and Downs open talks?

-

Mamelodi Sundowns are set to open talks with midfielder Andile Jali over a new contract, the Siya crew has been told.

The experienced midfielder has been in outstanding form for the Brazilians in the last two seasons and has played some of his best football since returning to South African shores following a stint in Belgium.

So inspiring has Jali’s form been that he was nominated for five PSL awards at the end of the 2021/22 season, receiving the PSL Footballer of the Season, DStv Premiership Players’ Player of the Season, DStv Premiership Midfielder of the Season, MTN8 Last Man Standing, Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament nominations.

Soccer Laduma reported in June 2018 that the Matatieleborn player had put pen to paper on a three-year deal, which included two separate one-year options.

The crew subsequently reported in May last year that Sundowns exercised the second of the two options, with the player’s long-term agent Mike Makaab at the time confirming that the midfielder would be tied to the club until June 2023.

Now, with Jali having entered the last year of his contract with the club, the crew has it on good authority that the player’s camp are set to open talks with the Chloorkopbased outfit over a new deal.

The midfielder did not feature in any of Sundowns’ games against La Passe in the CAF Champions League, Marumo Gallants in the DStv Premiership, and Orlando Pirates in the MTN8, although he remains an integral part of the dressing room at the Tshwane giants and should all go well in the negotiations, could prolong his stay with the Brazilians into the twilight of his career.
