Why Khumalo selected Chiefs players

Khumalo’s final selection of players was dominated by Kaizer Chiefs players, which suggested that the coach only relied on players that he was familiar with and had worked with on a weekly basis.

However, in his defence, Khumalo argued that the players had formed part of the U17 national team back in 2020 and were free agents at the time, which saw them being snapped up by the Naturenabased side.

He further revealed that Amakhosi, along with Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, were amongst the teams who were most willing to release their players to the national team, and as a result, the bulk of the players were selected from the Big Three, with Chiefs owning the lion’s share of players in the side.
