Crosses a problem too for Amakhosi!

-

It’s not just from dead balls that Chiefs are struggling to defend aerially. Recent matches have seen the Naturena-based side looking very susceptible from crosses into the box, either from the flank or a slightly narrower “half space” position. Galaxy netted from a floated leftwing delivery, whilst Chippa scored from a left-sided cross which wasn’t cleared properly by Dove. We also saw both Swallows and AmaZulu score from deep crosses from an inside right position to the back post. Both times, Kwinika was bypassed and caught under the ball, with the right back (first Dillan Solomons and then Frosler) not tucking around enough to aid their teammate at the back post. That weakness could be solved by bringing in Ngezana at right back perhaps. Even when Chiefs don’t concede from crosses or setplays, opponents tend to have missed opportunities. Wandisile Letlabika

hit the crossbar for the Dube Birds in a recent match from a set-piece situation and AmaZulu caused trouble with Riaan Hanamub’s deliveries last weekend. Pirates would be wise to get Deon Hotto, Innocent Maela, Saleng

and Monyane whipping plenty of balls
