AMAZULU WORKING ON NEW DEAL FOR MADUNA

-

As he enters into the final year of his contract with the club, the Siya crew can confirm that AmaZulu FC are set to open talks with midfielder Sphesihle Maduna over a new deal.

The 22-year-old is a product of the Usuthu academy and was promoted to the club’s first team at the age of 18, back in 2018, as one of the talented players touted for greatness.

Maduna set the topflight alight under Cavin Johnson, the coach who initially promoted him, and featured regularly under Ayanda Dlamini, Josef Vukuzic, Benni McCarthy and Brandon Truter thereafter.

However, at one stage, the midfielder’s future with the club was uncertain and it appeared as though they would not be interested in holding onto him upon the expiry of his contract in June last year, but the timely intervention of McCarthy saw him being recalled by the club, signing a two-year deal at the start of the season.

Now, with the midfielder’s contract set to expire in June 2023, Soccer Laduma has been informed that AmaZulu view Maduna as an integral part of the club and are set to open talks with the local talent over a new deal.

“The boy is seen as one of the players for the future and the club want to hold onto him,” a source informed the Siya crew.

Maduna has made eight appearances so far this season – four under new coach Romain Folz and four under Truter. The club rewarded the nimble-footed star with the number 10 jersey at the start of the season, and it now remains to be seen whether the two parties are able to see eye-to-eye during negotiations over a new deal.
