SPURS’ CUPIDO ATTRACTS DSTV PREM INTEREST

-

The Siya crew has been informed that Cape Town Spurs hitman Ashley Cupido is attracting interest in the DStv Premiership, following a fantastic campaign with Cape Town Spurs.

Cupido has grabbed his opportunity given to him by the Cape outfit’s head coach Shaun Bartlett this season and with seven goals in the last nine games, he is the Motsepe Foundation Championship’s leading goalscorer, forming a deadly strike partnership alongside Therlo Moosa.

In addition, he has earned himself a call-up to coach David Notoane’s national U23 team, where he managed to find the back of the net in a 2-2 draw against Togo in an U23 AFCON qualifier last month, with South Africa advancing to the final Afcon U23 qualifying round, courtesy of the away goal rule.

The player’s bright performances, naturally, have caught the eye of a number of elite division clubs, who are understood to have taken notice of his ability.

According to Siya sources, SuperSport United are amongst the clubs eyeing Cupido, with the Tshwane side expected to make a formal approach for his services.

However, with the young striker currently in the form of his life and Spurs chasing promotion to the DStv Premiership, Soccer Laduma understands that the Urban Warriors are unlikely to part ways with their top performer, unless they receive a multi-million rand offer for his services that is too good to turn down.

Cupido, having come through the then Ajax Cape Town youth system, was amongst six players promoted to the club’s first team in 2020.
