Downs make formal Kekana offer

-

The Siya crew has been led to believe that Mamelodi Sundowns have made a formal offer to Hlompho Kekana to return to the club.

The Zebediela-born man announced his retirement from the game a few months ago after leaving the club towards the end of last year, following a 10-year spell with the 12-time league champions.

The club has always said that they would welcome their former captain back with open arms and it appears management have put in an offer to him to go over.

Sundowns have former players Tiyani Mabunda and Teko Modise working as ambassadors of the club and the possible addition of Kekana will see him working with the players, the Siya crew understands. This is an effort to have younger faces working behind the scenes at Chloorkop.

The 2016 African champions are looking to use the experience of the former midfield maestro in guiding some of the players, especially in moments where they need to open up about whatever challenges they face on a daily basis.

Soccer Laduma understands that Kekana, who has been working as an ambassador for the MTN8 and Carling Black Label Cup recently, is open to making a return to Chloorkop.

The 38-year-old Kekana has also been working as an analyst for SABC Sport in recent months and it’s unclear at this stage if joining Masandawana would have an effect on that.

Sundowns, meanwhile, are expected to make announcements on their plans for the FIFA World Cup break. The club is expected to travel outside the country to ensure the squad is ready to compete in the CAF Champions League group stage.
