What rests on Khune decision?
Kaizer Chiefs will spend the next few months thinking about the future of their goalkeeping department, with the contract of Itumeleng Khune coming to an end in June 2023.
The Siya crew understands that a lot will go into making a final decision on the future of Khune, who has been with the Soweto giants his entire career. Firstly, Amakhosi are believed to be thinking about a long-term replacement for the Ventersdorp-born man, considering the big role he has played throughout his time at
Mzansi’s most-supported side.
Bruce Bvuma and Brandon Petersen may be there to take over whenever Khune is no longer playing, but the club is understood to be looking at different options. While they continue to consider what happens, Soccer Laduma understands that there could be a new short-term deal for the 35-year-old star, especially with him recently showing that he can perform and lead from the back.
The Siya crew understands that Khune wants to end his career with the Naturenabased outfit and would have no problem penning a shortterm contract.
The highly decorated player is seen as someone who could stay with the club once his playing career comes to an end. He attended a goalkeeper coaching course during the course of last season, as he plans for life after football.
Chiefs, meanwhile, also have a big decision to make on the future of former Zimbabwean international Khama Billiat, as reported by the crew a few weeks ago. Billiat’s deal also expires in June 2023.
