What are the facts?

One thing PSL bosses want to do is protect their asset and they would do absolutely everything to ensure that they do not get relegated. At times, this means having a say or asking questions about the team.

Baroka FC chairman Khurishi Mphahlele, who watched as his side was relegated from the DStv Premiership, told the Siya crew that he does not understand why coaches use the word ‘interference’.

“We run other businesses and there is no such thing as interference there, from the managing director or the owner. It’s only in football where they say you are interfering. But when I am running my other company, nobody calls it interference. It’s only in football,” Mphahlele said.

“If you are an owner and you talk, they say it’s interference. If somebody is not performing and you talk, it’s called interference. I really don’t understand. Are the owners not supposed to talk when they have something that can help the organisation improve or move forward?

“A coach is an employee like every other person in the club and he has to report to someone in terms of our business. But these people are refusing, and they call it interference. When I am raising something that involves my business, it’s not interference. If a particular player plays well and then you put him on the bench, I must ask why.”

The status in the DStv Premiership is a lucrative one and club bosses want to ensure by all means that they do not have to go down

to the second tier, where they are not going to get much in terms of return on investment.
