A tricky period for our teams!

-

The 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup is going to affect a lot of our domestic teams with the league put on hold now until towards the end of December. After the upcoming Carling Black Label Cup, there’s not going to be any action for our teams until the 30th of December when the league resumes, which is a long time. Some teams were gaining momentum, some were struggling, while others have just parted ways with their coaches. So, the time off might benefit others, while it will surely have a negative impact on others. This is also an unfamiliar period to have the biggest event in the world, as it is the first time in the history of our football that we will have a World Cup in November-December. Imagine also the DStv Premiership games on the 30th and 31st of December. It is unheard of in our league, but teams will have to do what they have to do. The tricky part is in keeping players active during this break because if they are not active, they run the risk of detraining. They will have to try and stay fit by either playing friendly games or continuing with their training programme. Players will definitely need short breaks from time to time, especially after training for so long without any competitive games. This is going to be a tricky period for our teams, that’s for sure!
