Doc on Carling Black Label Cup

-

This one-day tournament is exactly the format that we were used to during our time, even before we started playing football. The only difference is that the third place play-off will just be penalties and that this is played mid-season rather than pre-season, as it was the case in the past. This is a good initiative that will keep the supporters busy and enjoying the game. Maybe this will be an opportunity for coaches to give a chance to players who have not been enjoying regular game-time so far. If there’s a coach who will be going out to win this tournament, I’m not sure if it will be the way to go. Having said that, I’m not working for any of the four teams, so I wouldn’t know what their objectives are. Who knows? The supporters might select the tried and tested, but we will see. There’s pride at stake, so don’t be surprised if teams give it their best shot, especially with this being a new trophy and initiative. Everyone wants to be the first at these kinds of things and with the next round of fixtures so far away, everyone will surely be looking to go into that break on the back of a victory.
