LOVE (AND CONGRATULATE) THY NEIGHBOUR

-

On behalf of Amakhosi, let me swallow my hidden jealousy and congratulate Pirates for being 2022/23 MTN8 champions. Indeed, they fought for it from the start. I also beg the nation to be behind this young energetic player, Saleng… especially Pirates supporters, who might put unnecessary pressure on the boy. Let him play his normal football, without expecting a lot. Other than that, let’s meet this coming weekend, Soweto Derby Round 2. Cheers! Ofentse Kakapa Mahatlhe, Schweizer-Reneke

JR took a big risk by benching Mpontshane and I was glad it did not backfire. Dropping him could have gone 50-50. If they’d lost, supporters were going to question why he was dropped. He actually had good games since replacing injured Ofori. During the derby, he was a strong contender for Man of the Match until ‘that moment’. I pray this does not dent his confidence when given another chance. JR has now set a wrong precedent that if players have bad games, they’ll be dropped, which will be difficult to apply fairly and he’ll then be accused of favouritism. Nevertheless, I salute Bucs for their second trophy while we (Chiefs) are still on a trophy hunger strike and there is no hope it will end soon. This was the only trophy we had a good chance of winning but blew it up. We must just brace ourselves for another dry season as we do not have enough ammunition to fight for the league. We also know our terrible Nedbank Cup record. Amos “Tiger” Tshukudu, Ga-Maria

I’m a big Chiefs supporter and I would like to congratulate Pirates for their victory in the MTN8. They really played well and deserved it. Lebo Blennis, Warrenton

I hold a dual allegiance in the PSL, with Chiefs the main team and AmaZulu FC the second. Prior to the MTN8 final, I was wearing my AmaZulu cap with pride and oozing confidence that the club will end its 30-year trophy drought. In the first 30 minutes, they were jittery and committed a series of fouls, one which led to a goal. They were overawed by the occasion, particularly the presence of His Excellency, the majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini. AmaZulu spurned a golden chance to end a three-decade barren run as this final was played in their own backyard. Congrats to the Buccaneers. I was at Orlando Stadium to support them against Downs in the first leg of the semis. Indeed, my support for them was not in vain. It would have been a travesty of justice had they not won the trophy as they were the most consistent team throughout. George Sithole, Honeydew
