SEKHUKHUNE TO PROMOTE ROOI?

-

The Siya crew has been reliably informed that Sekhukhune United are set to promote former SA U20 youth international Leonardo Rooi to the club’s first team.

Since joining Babina Noko’s reserve side at the start of the 2022/23 season, the 20-year-old has been one of the standout players for coach Morgan Gould’s side. Despite being a defender, the versatile Rooi has chipped in with two goals already in the DStv Diski Challenge this campaign and has won a number of Man of the Match awards.

Now, the latest news regarding the young sensation is that Sekhukhune are keen on adding him to the club’s first team roster.

According to Siya sources, Babina Noko have identified Rooi as a

at the Brazilians, with indications that the club would be willing to send him on loan for a regular run elsewhere.

The highly-rated striker has made only two appearances in all competitions so far this season and has been a notable absentee from Downs’ matchday squads. With the likes of Ricardo Goss, Grant Margeman and Thabang Sibanyoni spending the season on loan with SuperSport, Motupa could become the next player in line to move across the city.

“SuperSport United is interested in Gift Motupa from Sundowns and he is one of the club’s targets for the next transfer window,” said a source.

“The boy did well under coach Gavin Hunt at Wits and a move to SuperSport could benefit him, where he could get an opportunity to resurrect his career under the same coach,” the source concluded.
