Chiefs to step up Fleurs chase?

-

As previously reported by the Siya crew, SuperSport United defender Luke Fleurs has been on Kaizer Chiefs’ radar for some time now and it is now understood the Glamour Boys are expected to prioritize signing him in January.

Soccer Laduma sources at both clubs have indicated that there is a strong possibility the two teams could look at reaching an agreement in the coming weeks regarding the transfer of one of the country’s highly-rated centre-backs.

Information gathered by the crew is that Fleurs is now in the final months of his initial agreement with SuperSport and will soon be in a position to sign a pre-contract with a club of his choice.

The player’s deal is set to run out on June 30.

But Matsatsantsa, according to sources, are hoping to cash in and maybe even sell Fleurs on a cut-price fee when the January window reopens – so, instead of the defender leaving for free at the end of the season, the club is happy to offload him months prior.

Given the lack of game-time since the return of Gavin Hunt to the Tshwane outfit, the move would suit all parties involved.

Fleurs has been a bit-part player as the serial-winning coach appears to prefer veteran Thulani Hlatshwayo and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe.

He has only managed five appearances out of 14 in this campaign so far, and perhaps the biggest indicator that he has lost his place as a regular is the fact that he did not feature at all in the last seven matches.

It remains to be seen how quickly the mooted transfer develops.
