BALOYI FACES UNCERTAIN MARITZBURG FUTURE

-

Midfielder Lucky Baloyi is facing an uncertain future with Maritzburg United due to limited game-time.

Baloyi has featured in only five matches for the Team of Choice, who have experienced a challenging 2022/23 DStv Premiership campaign, struggling at the bottom half of the table due to disappointing results.

In June this year, the Pietermaritzburg-based outfit confirmed that they were parting ways with the former Kaizer Chiefs player as part of the mass exodus that took place at the club, although the 31-year-old was re-called and given a second chance to fight for his place in the team.

Baloyi had been with the club since January, having joined from Royal AM and contributed with seven appearances under coach Ernst Middendorp as Maritzburg finished 12th on the log. At Thwihli Thwahla, the player made only one appearance before he was eventually released in January.

According to sources, the KwaZuluNatal club are set to make further changes to the squad in January and at the end of the season, and Baloyi has been earmarked as one of the players that could be affected.

“He (Baloyi) is one of the players who will have to impress under the new technical team to keep his place in the team or he could be released again,” said a source.

As reported by the Siya crew, Maritzburg have appointed Fadlu

Davids as their new head coach, following the departure of John Maduka, who succeeded Middendorp coming into the current season.
