Pirates’ Makgaka to assess options?

-

Collins Makgaka could be playing his football elsewhere next season, according to the information making its way to the Siya crew. The Orlando Pirates player has struggled for regular game-time, which has been identified and as a concern.

Despite being commended for his high work-rate in training, Makgaka has not been able to cement a spot under coach Jose Riveiro. The attacking midfielder has made only four appearances this season, which have all come from the substitutes’ bench, and amounting to a total of 43 minutes.

Since joining the Soweto giants from Baroka FC more than two years ago, he hasn’t been playing regularly, having featured in 13 matches in all competitions last season, while he played in seven games in all competitions in his first campaign.

During the last transfer window, there was talk of the player possibly leaving the Buccaneers, although the club decided to give him another chance to fight for his place in the star-studded team.

However, indications from sources are that the 26-year-old’s continued lack of regular gametime is a cause for concern for his handlers, who are believed to be assessing various options at present.

“Collins Makgaka should be playing more and his situation with lack of regular game-time is a cause for concern,” explained a Siya source in the know.

“Various options will be assessed to see if he can get a loan deal to improve his chances of playing regularly in the second round of the season,” added the source.

According to the information made available to the crew, Makgaka is left with a little over six months on his existing Pirates contract, having signed a three-year deal when he joined in 2020 from Bakgaga.
