Doc’s memory bank: I went to do the job for him

-

I spoke about playing through injury last week and it reminded me of the other time I had to go through the same experience. I was coached by Augusto Palacios and the man really believed in me, as I’ve already mentioned the kind of relationship I have with him when I told you about him. He believed things would happen whenever I was on the field. We were playing Iwisa Spectacular against Orlando Pirates and I was suffering from a jumper’s knee. Even the injections from the doctor couldn’t help much, but the coach insisted on playing me in the final. I was literally limping and the supporters felt bad for me and even suggested that I get substituted because I was struggling, but the coach was resolute. Coach Augusto told me he just needed me on the field for 25 minutes, at most, and I went on to do the job for him. I also wanted to play so badly and after he was happy, he substituted me. We went on to win the game.
