CITY TO SACRIFICE FASIKA FOR ZAPATA?

-

Word reaching the Siya crew is that Cape Town City are looking to sacrifice a big name to accommodate new signing Juan Camilo Zapata.

The club’s latest signing Zapata, 28, touched down in the Mother City last week, having been signed from CD Hermanos Colmenarez.

However, the arrival of the Colombian striker provided City with a headache regarding their foreign contingent.

As per the NSL rules, Premier Soccer League clubs can register a maximum of five foreign players at any given time – and with the Citizens recruiting the forward, it means they had now exhausted their quota.

The five foreign spots at City are occupied by: Nathan Fasika (DR Congo), Bertrand Mani (Cameroon), Kajally Drammeh (Gambia), Darwin Gonzalez (Venezuela) and Brice

Ambina (Cameroon).

Now, the latest news reaching this publication is that Fasika could be the sacrificial lamb to make way for the striker to join the club.

Fasika, who is contracted to the side until 2026, is likely to be deregistered by the club owing to his knee injury that is expected to keep him sidelined for an extended period of time, similar to the situation with Mamelodi Sundowns in February this year.

Siya sources have informed the crew that Fasika will undergo rehabilitation on his knee injury and a decision on his future will be made at a later stage.

Zapata arrives at City with a huge reputation having scored 19 goals in 35 appearances in all competitions for his Colombian club this season and will be hoping to contribute to the club’s lowly record of 11 goals in 12 league matches so far this season.
