Sundowns to reward Mailula with improved deal?
The Siya crew has been informed that Mamelodi Sundowns are set to offer one of their promising talents, Cassius Mailula, a new and improved deal.
The 21-year-old is a product of the club’s development structures and after his standout performances for their DStv Diski Challenge side under the watchful eye of club legend Surprise Moriri, the Ga-Molepo-born attacker was promoted to the first team at the start of the current season.
Very little was made of Mailula’s promotion, given the plethora of stars in the Chloorkop-based outfit’s dressing room.
However, with the side’s main striker Peter Shalulile undergoing an operation for a hernia problem, Mailula stepped up to the plate, scoring eight goals in that period, including three braces against La Passe, Maritzburg United and Orlando Pirates respectively.
The stocky player’s ascendence has coincided with the appointment of Rhulani Mokwena as the side’s head coach and now Soccer Laduma understands that Sundowns are looking at rewarding the attacker with a new and improved deal.
The player is understood to still be on a development contract with the Brazilians, although he is expected to be handed a more lucrative financial package by the club.
The Siya crew reached out to the player’s representative, Karabo Mathang Tshabuse of P Management, although calls and messages went unanswered at the time of print.
The club has already tied down several key players like Shalulile, Themba Zwane, Rivaldo Coetzee, Thapelo
Morena and Gaston Sirino to new deals, and indications are that Mailula is next on the list.
