Domingo to stay on at Downs?

-

Mamelodi Sundowns are understood to be interested in holding onto midfielder Haashim Domingo for a longer period.

The Siya crew understands that Domingo joined the club on a fiveyear deal. This is a three-year contract with an option to extend for two more seasons and the Brazilians are believed to be preparing to keep the former Bidvest Wits midfielder on board.

He signed for the Tshwane giants from Wits in 2020 and is currently in the third year of his deal.

With Rhulani Mokwena as head coach, the crew understands that Domingo has a better chance of getting more game-time. The 27-year-old started the two matches after Mokwena was confirmed as head coach and is expected to get more opportunities as the season progresses, which will increase his chances of staying at Chloorkop beyond the end of this season.

In total, Domingo has made five appearances in all competitions this campaign, with three goals and one assist to his name.

Competition has always been a factor in his progression, or lack thereof, but it’s understood that there is a belief within the Downs camp that the player will be able to feature a bit more in a midfield that consists of the likes of Teboho Mokoena, Bongani Zungu, Andile Jali, Rivaldo Coetzee and Lebohang Maboe.

“He is a player Sundowns are looking at holding onto, because he is highly-rated by the coach,” a

source informed the Siya crew.

Sundowns, meanwhile, are likely to loan out Katlego Mohamme in January, with the defender yet to make a competitive appearance this season.
