Bucs in a league game the very next week, the same Pirates annexing the MTN8 trophy at the expense of AmaZulu FC thereafter, then knocking Chiefs out of the Carling Black Label Cup, only to succumb to Downs in the final of the same cup. There are mitigating circumstances for the latter 4-0 drubbing. What this month-long period has revealed is that whether Pirates win or lose, a section of the population rejoices. There is more happiness generated by a narrow Pirates loss to Sekhukhune United than a comprehensive 5-0 victory of Sundowns against Maritzburg United. Not only are the Buccaneers happy, but they also make people happy whether in defeat or victory. Their defeat ensures that some coaches’ positions are saved. That’s why I argue that Amabhakaniya ayajabulisa (make people happy) because watching them play is therapeutic. Up the Bucs! Ephraim Sinxezi,

The retiring of jersey number 10, as previously worn by Jomo Sono at Orlando Pirates, and jersey number 15, worn by Doctor Khumalo at Kaizer Chiefs, is not right. In essence, they are telling the current crop that none of them is good enough to wear those jerseys. Malombo Lechaba wore that jersey number 15 for many years at Amakhosi, but the club didn’t consider retiring it, but Doctor comes and plays, and thereafter they retire it. Is this a way to honour Doc? Yes, honour the man, but not by retiring the jersey. I wish that one player can be brave enough to demand that retired jersey as part of the deal for signing with these two selfish teams. Manchester United has jersey number 7, which was worn by great players like Eric Cantona, David Beckham, Edinson Cavani, Cristiano Ronaldo, Alexis Sanchez, Angel Di Maria, Memphis Depay and others, but they didn’t retire it. Sandile Zungu is slowly becoming another Chippa Mpengesi, not having reasonable targets for coaches. Just before the second leg of the MTN8 semi-finals against Kaizer Chiefs, he was already saying that he would be playing in the final, putting unnecessary pressure on the new coach. Last season, Chiefs offered him Dumisani Zuma and other players for Siyethemba Sithebe. He said he didn’t want Kaizer Chiefs rejects, but guess what? End of the season, he signs the same rejects. Be careful of what you say, Sir. Xolela Fiti, Gqeberha

I would like to put a proposal to the powers that be at the PSL office. My suggestion is that all the DStv Premiership clubs play the same opponents as those of their DStv Diski Challenge teams, and on the same day. If, for instance, AmaZulu FC are playing against Swallows FC at Moses Mabhida Stadium at 15h00, let AmaZulu’s DDC side play the Swallows DDC outfit at the same venue, maybe three hours earlier. Siyabonga Enock, via email

In the PSL, every season there’s something that makes us fans talk. This season, our defenders are really up to the task, so our strikers are finding it tough. When teams don’t score, we complain a lot. If strikers find the net regularly, we criticise our defenders, so I’m happy that our defenders are up to the task this season… and the keepers too. I would like congratulate one of our own, Molatelo Constance Matjipa, for launching her Foundation, named after her. The Conny Matjipa Foundation was launched on 22 October in her hometown, Namakgale in Limpopo, under BaPhalaborwa Municipality. She is one of those women that I’ve admired a lot since she became the first woman sports commentator on a national radio station, Thobela FM. Conny is one of those intelligent women and has a very rich football knowledge, not only on South African or even African football but globally. Her Foundation will be very helpful to her community and the nearby communities, if not Limpopo at large. Giving back to the community is what we need to do and what she just did will give the local kids an opportunity to showcase their talents and skills and reach the highest level. I just thank God for giving her such strength and that big heart of involving herself in football, a previously male-only terrain. Thank you, aus Conny, and may the Almighty God bless you and your Foundation. Letladi wa Ga-Mphahlele, Maralaleng
