Chiefs in no hurry to decide Matlou’s future

-

According to Siya sources at Naturena and close to midfielder George Matlou, it’s understood Kaizer Chiefs are in no hurry to decide the player’s future.

There have been reports linking the former Bidvest Wits academy graduate with a potential move away from the Glamour Boys due to a lack of game-time under interim coach Cavin Johnson, but insiders say this is premature.

Matlou is in the final three months of his contract with the Soweto giants having joined them from Moroka Swallows in July 2022.

Although he was very much in the plans under then coach Arthur Zwane in his debut season as well as Molefi Ntseki the following one, he has been set back by injuries that have kept him sidelined and almost forgotten.

The 25-year-old hasn’t featured for Chiefs since November last year in their 3-2 win over Cape Town Spurs, a match in which he came off the bench to make a oneminute cameo and then was an unused substitute in the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates a few days later at FNB Stadium.

Soccer Laduma has been informed Matlou is making a full recovery and was pictured during the Glamour Boys’ media open day last week joining part of the training session, although he was not in the squad to face his former side Swallows last weekend.

A decision will be made closer to the end of the season, but reliable sources who are in the know have indicated Amakhosi are in no rush to retain the player or send him packing – but his injury record is a concern, they add.
