There’s nothing more romantic than an upmarket bush getaway.

The privacy of the location, the beautiful decor of the lodge, the staff at your beck and call, and sunset drinks while surrounded by Africa’s wildlife. Zebra Hills is a fairly unique place insofar as you rent an entire safari-style home for the duration of your stay, and bring your own food (to be cooked for you by a chef and served by butlers). There is a three-bedroom Homestead and the seven-bedroom Main Lodge to choose from, so we teamed up with old friends and celebrated Valentine’s Day together at the Homestead. Of course, the kids had to come along too, which in many cases can totally ruin a romantic vibe, but Zebra Hills caters for children and there were games for them to play and a pool to occupy them. They, of course, were housed in their own room. Included in the cost are two game drives a day, which kept us all busy. In the evenings, we supped on fine wines around a blazing fire pit and watched wildlife come and go at an illuminated watering hole. Pure African Bliss.
