GWM on the charge

We all know that bakkies rule the roost in South Africa, so a fair number of you will be excited or at least interested that GWM, the Chinese automotive giant that has been making such strides in its product quality, has unveiled the new GWM Steed 7. As you can see it is a good-looking bakkie, albeit with some borrowed design cues. Bigger news is that GWM has launched a whole new bakkie division, called GWM Pickup Truck, which will be rolling out a number of new vehicles for most market segments.

Toyota lends a helping hand

Toyota South Africa has donated a brand-new Toyota Hilux 2.4GD-6 SRX double-cab 4x4 to the South African National Parks in an effort to curb rhino poaching in South Africa. The vehicle will assist SANParks with the transportation of the Meerkat, a wide-area surveillance system, that can comb the bush for potential poachers. The system comprises a suite of radar and electro-optic sensors capable of detecting human movement, which is so important when it comes to anti-poaching measures in the Kruger National Park.
