After studying jewellery design and manufacture at the DUT, Genevieve Motley produced a successful range of jewellery under her own name for several years.

“However, when my daughter was a toddler, I was frustrated by the lack of good quality designer furniture and decor for children. I started designing, making and commissioning items for her room and the spin-off from friends and family led to the opening of my online store – Olly Polly.” That was three years ago and the business has grown by leaps and bounds.

After enquiries about styling services, Genevieve established Motley, which offers both interior and product styling along with an online shop that stocks modern decor items by local designers.

“Interior design and styling have always been my passion,” she says. “I follow international trends, but for me, interiors should be a balance of style and comfort. Play and imagination are important in the children’s rooms I design. Not only do I want them to be beautiful aesthetically, I want to inspire children to forget technology and create their own make-believe wonderland.”

A bonus of running an online business is that Genevieve is able to live in the KZN Midlands. “To relax, I spend time in my veggie garden and orchard,” she says. “I love the country life.” 1 SWAN ROYALE BY JULIE SMITH
