A WORLD VIEW A scrumptious lunch with Huenu Solsona
The combination of the amazing setting and her love of entertaining makes lunch invitations from Huenu Solsona much sought after
Entrepreneur Huenu Solsona has called many places home but, having spent some time here as a child, has always had a soft spot for South Africa.
A few years ago, this vivacious Argentine decided to move here, and fuelled by her passion for the outdoors, started a business, Adventure Boot Camp, an outdoor fitness programme for women.
Inspired by an idea she’d seen in Canada, she subsequently established The Galileo Open Air Cinema, which screens movies in outdoor settings such as Kirstenbosch and Kelvin Grove.
“Coming from Argentina I love entertaining and having people in my home. In Argentina, more than going out to eat, you usually invite friends over for a meal at least twice a week.” She laughingly admits that she was never a great cook and with her busy schedule she didn’t have time for it. However, since having a baby (Ben is now one) she’s scaled back a bit and now finds cooking to be a relaxing and creative outlet.
Her home, a three-storey apartment in Camps Bay, has all the ingredients for a wonderful culinary outdoor experience. The roof garden has 180-degree sea and mountain views and her entertaining is usually alfresco at a rustic table and benches under a canopy. “I bought the apartment a few years ago and have really enjoyed decorating it. Plus, there’s something about waking up to the mountain views that’s hard to beat.”
She usually serves large platters of food including some type of beef, a staple in Argentina, from which her guests can help themselves. And, there’s always a delicious drink on arrival.
“At home in summer there’s usually a pitcher of clericó, a mix of white wine or sparkling wine and fruit, served very cold.” Salud!
