FRICA ’ S got a new rap prince and he goes by the stage name “Ice Prince Zamani”, but many of his fans across Africa simply call him Ice Prince. As we celebrate Africa Day on May 25, TRACE URBAN shines a light on yet another artist who’s making Africa very proud.

Ice Prince is a Nigerian-born rapper who burst onto the scene in 2009 after winning the Hennessy Artistry competitio­n. He has his single to thank for beating other hopefuls including songstress Mo’Cheddah.

Ice has come a long way in his career. Soon after winning the competitio­n, he was signed to Chocolate City Records and released his first single, with the label in 2010.

The single was an instant hit in Nigeria and soon spread to the rest of Africa and the world. Although Ice had been around the music scene since 2004, it wasn’t until the success of that he saw his dreams unfolding.

His unique flow and versatilit­y made him as unique as ever. Following the success of his single, he released his debut album, ironically titled (and who didn’t?). Africa was buzzing with his tracks.

Last year, Ice Prince was nominated for a BET Award in the “Best Internatio­nal Act” category but lost out to fellow Nigerian Wizkid and Ghana’s Sarkodie.
