Series of trucks to go on auction

WEAKER RAND A BOON FOR BIDDERS

STEADY demand for commercial vehicles across all segments bodes well for Park Village Auctions’ upcoming truck and trailer auction.

So says LeRoy Augustyn, who explains that the local commercial vehicle industry had a good month in April thanks largely to the fact that business confidence edged up during the first quarter of the year.

“If confidence is up and the industry is stable, it makes sense that this would translate into greater demand for commercial vehicles, which is exactly what has happened,” says Augustyn.

Augustyn adds that the demand can also be attributed to a weaker rand, which is prompting investors to “fleet up” prior to the price hikes that will inevitably follow later this year. Low interest rates and a highly competitive trading environment have also encouraged sales across the board, he notes.

This positive sentiment has filtered down to the auction floor of late, says Augustyn, who says that bidder numbers are up and prices being achieved reflect true market values.

Given the current conditions, Augustyn expects a good showing at PVA’s upcoming truck auction which is due to take place next Thursday, May 30, at PVA’s truck yard at Nasrec from 10.30am onwards.

Rigid trucks and truck tractors to be auctioned include a fleet of Toyota Dyna, Hino rigid trucks, Mercedes Benz Axor, Actros, Mitsubishi Fuso, MSN TGA 33.360, Nissan UD 440, UD 290, Stralis, Iveco, Renault Kerax, International 9800, 7600 and Tata.

A collection of earthmoving equipment comprising skidsteer loaders, excavators and tractors will also be auctioned alongside a number of trailers including SA truck bodies, Hendred, Afrit, Motor Trail, flat deck link trailers, skeletal trailers, curtain side trailers and side tipper trailers.

“Whether or not the market will continue to perform remains to be seen, particularly in light of another impending round of strikes which will undoubtedly knock investor confidence once more. For now, though, we’ll make hay while the sun shines,” notes Augustyn.

Viewing will take place on Wednesday, May 29, from 10am to 4pm. Web reference 9193. For further information, contact Park Village Auctions on 011-789-4375 or go to
