MALEMA LOSES ANOTHER HOUSE
... but forges ahead with plans to launch political party
EXPELLED ANC Youth League president Julius Malema faces losing another house.
Auctioneers said yesterday that Malema’s house in the leafy suburb of Flora Park in Polokwane, Limpopo, would be auctioned off in two weeks’ time.
The house will go under the hammer on July 23.
Polokwane auctioneer Aaggie Stroh of Eli Stroh Properties confirmed yesterday that they hoped to raise between R1-million and R1.5-million from the sale of the house.
“I can confirm that Malema’s house at 23 Mopani Street at Flora Park will be on auction on July 23,” Stroh said yesterday.
He described the house as “very nice and clean” but said “its value could be different because of the economic climate changes”.
Malema’s woes started after it was discovered that he owed the South African Revenue Service (Sars) R16-million in taxes.
As a way of recouping the money owed, Sars obtained a court order to attach properties owned by the former youth league leader.
The first to go under the hammer were his household goods.
These were sold in Polokwane in February and only managed to fetch R54 000.
In mid-May, Malema’s incomplete Sandown, Johannesburg, mansion, purchased in 2009 for R3.6-million, was sold for R5.9-million.
His farm outside Polokwane was sold in June for R2.5-million.
Stroh said yesterday he had no idea if Malema’s other house in Seshego, Polokwane, where his grandmother Sarah, 84, lives, would also be auctioned.
Sars spokeswoman Marika Muller said: “The Tax Administration Act precludes Sars from providing or discussing details of the tax affairs of any individual or business unless during the proceedings of an open court.”
