Tlokwe ANC-DA battle rages on
TLOKWE municipality has become a battlefield for the ANC and the DA to win after the ruling party’s mayor, was ousted.
The Democratic Alliance will be doing a walkabout in the area today, talking to local residents about its plans to bring service delivery.
This follows a motion of no confidence in the ANC leadership.
ANC NEC member Gugile Nkwinti visited the region with provincial leaders on Monday, where he admitted that things were not looking good.
He said the ANC was taking long to investigate Maphetle Maphetle, who is alleged to have abused the council’s coffers.
Now Maphetle and council speaker, Barei Mosiane-Segoto, have served court papers on the 48 councillors in a bid to overturn the former mayor’s “unlawful ” removal from office.
Twenty-six are ANC councillors, 19 are DA, two are Freedom Front Plus and one is from Cope. They were all present during last week’s seating that saw the mayor being replaced by DA councillor Anette Combrink.
Their application, to nullify decisions taken at the meeting, will be heard as an urgent matter at the Pretoria High Court on July 23.
Maphetle wants the court to order councillors to pay the cost of his application in their personal capacities. He has the support of MosianeSegoto, who also has filed an affidavit in court in Maphetle’s support.
DA spokesman Chris Hattingh said the party would counter the application.
Last week, the North West ANC’s disciplinary committee expelled 14 councillors who voted to unseat Maphetle, choosing to be led by the DA for the second time.
