Gearing up for Sasfa U-16 Cup
TOP footballing schools from around the country will compete in the provincial playoffs of the fifth edition of the Metropolitan Sasfa Under-16 Cup starting at the Flavius Mareka College in Sasolburg on July 27.
The national schools tournament continues to develop future champions in South Africa.
The current champions, Rosina Sedibane Modiba School, Gauteng, claimed their third title last year and represented South Africa at the biennial International Soccer Federation Schools World Championships in France earlier this year.
Sasfa president Mandla “Shoes” Mazibuko has welcomed the 2013 season, and looking forward to another period of “achieving mile- stones in our quest for the acceleration of football development through the platform of education through sport”.
He said the competition had yielded good results, with the “whole country now watching the skills of Thabo Moloi [SuperSport United], Timm Miguel [Wits] and Ronwen Williams [SuperSport], who featured in this tournament in 2010”.
All prize monies will go to providing resources for the schools. The competition format comprises three main phases prior to the national play-offs – zonal, regional and provincial.
A life skills component will form part of every tournament, which includes financial and wellness education.
