ANC ’ s Ramaphosa turns on the charm
ANC deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa went on a charm offensive in Polokwane, Limpopo, at the weekend, kick-starting the party ’ s election campaign.
Ramaphosa started with a walk- about at a local mall where he met and greeted people out shopping.
He later went to the taxi rank where he spoke to several taxi operators about the importance of taking part in the elections.
Ramaphosa also did door-todoor visits at Disteneng, an informal settlement near Polokwane.
There are no proper houses at the settlement, only shacks, which leave residents vulnerable to fire during winter.
“I have witnessed the conditions under which the people of Disteneng live and I will discuss their conditions with the president of the country with a view to making an intervention, ” he said.
Ramaphosa said he would meet with the provincial government leadership and the leadership of the Polokwane municipality to discuss ways of improving the lives of the people of Disteneng.
He challenged local leaders to work hard to ensure they provided people with houses, water, electricity and proper roads.
“The ANC does not want leaders who embezzle funds and forget about providing for their people,” Ramaphosa said.
He also said the ANC would take those who engaged in corruption to task and report them to law enforcement agencies.
Ramaphosa was accompanied by acting Limpopo premier Namane Masemola, leader of the provincial ANC task team Falaza Mdaka, Polokwane executive mayor Freddy Greaver and ANC Limpopo convenor Ruth Bhengu. –
