Don ’ t belittle our Bafana

-

THE Cosafa Cup is over and once again South Africa bit the dust.

After the unsavoury way in which the country’s team was put together the final outcome was to be expected. At least to realists.

While the team is being referred to as Bafana Bafana we are left wondering what happened to AmaBinneplaas that had been created for such games and tournaments.

As it is, Zambians and other home-based teams at the tournament believe they were playing the South African senior national team.

We want to believe that none of those teams would have beaten our first-choice team.

That much would have been clear if we had distinguished the team that’s currently going into the third and fourth place play-off tomorrow to the real McCoy.

South Africa is poised to host the African Nations Championship in January and February which is meant strictly for home-based players. The team at Cosafa should be the nucleus of the AmaBinneplaas that should contest that tournament.

That is called continuity and should help make the circle bigger for Bafana Bafana. And, head coach Gordon Igesund should be made aware of that as soon as yesterday.

Maybe the team should also have its own coach with Igesund overseeing things. His assistant Serame Letsoaka would be better placed for that.
