Chiefs confirm Parker and Majoro bust-up

Brawl was minor Bax

THE reported bust-up between Kaizer Chiefs strikers Lehlohonolo Majoro and Bernard Parker ahead of last Saturday’s Soweto derby has apparently been a long time coming.

The two players were involved in a ‘ minor’ brawl while at training preparing to face rivals Orlando Pirates.

Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter yesterday confirmed that the incident took place when emotions ran high after a reckless tackle, but said “it was a minor thing that people shouldn’t read too much into”.

“This happens all over the world and that is how players show that they want to be part of the team, and they try and impress at training. I think everybody is getting excited about this and it was minor,” Baxter said.

Sowetan, however, understands that Majoro’s illdiscipline and sulky behaviour has led to the former AmaZulu goal ace losing his place to Kingston Nkhatha, who scored in that match.

The arrival of Knowledge Musona on loan from Hoffenheim has also played a part as he has been the preferred partner for Parker, last season’s top scorer.

Majoro’s contract with Amakhosi runs out at the end of the season, and he is said to be considering a move away from the club even though that could hurt his Bafana Bafana chances. Chiefs are also playing in the African Champions League next year.

“He has sulked when he has not been playing,” said a reliable source who spoke on condition of anonymity. “Majoro also missed a team meeting that was requested by the coach and he just drove off after training. He is childish.”

Majoro joined Chiefs in June 2011 following his eyecatching debut season in the Premier League when he scored 14 goals in 30 games for Usuthu.

The forward now seems unsettled at Chiefs, but yesterday Baxter would not confirm or deny this.

“I would not want to discuss my opinion of my players in the papers. I don’t think it is fair that they read or hear what I have to say about them in public,” he said. “But when you pick a team you have to consider a lot of things.”

Asked for comment, Majoro said the club had not given him permission to speak to the press.
