Arrows not yet flying straight

- Nick Said

LAMONTVILLE Golden Arrows coach Mark Harrison has warned there is no quick fix to their problems as Abafana Bes ’ thende face a difficult week with a home meeting against Moroka Swallows on Wednesday and an away trip to SuperSport United on Saturday.

Harrison has been in charge of two matches with Arrows after taking over from Manqoba Mngqithi last month. He suffered a 4-0 Telkom Knockout quarterfinal defeat to Orlando Pirates and a 1-0 league loss at Mpumalanga Black Aces.

Arrows remain rooted to the foot of the Absa Premiership table. The former Chippa United boss admits it will take some time for him to turn things around.

“I think we are probably four or five games away from being where we want to be,” Harrison told Sowetan.

“There was an improvement in the second half against [Mpumalanga] Black Aces and the guys are starting to understand how I want them to play. But it is a work in progress.

“There was a lot, in my opinion, that needed changing when I came in and that takes time.

“The way we set up for matches, our physical preparedness for games and tightening up our play has been key. I hope to see more of an improvement against Swallows and SuperSport. But there is no quick fix for us.”

The Durban-based side have not been helped by the loss through injury of Namibian international Rudolf Bester. “Rudi has injured the ligaments in his ankle, he will be out for around eight weeks,” Harrison said.
