JUST as she is trying to recuperate from a car crash, actress Khanyi Mbau now has to deal with news that a case has been opened against her by police.

Yesterday, Sowetan reported that the actress had a car crash on the N1 near Grasmere. But police have since confirmed they are investigating a case of negligent driving against her as a result of the incident.

Mbau was treated on the scene by paramedics and then taken to Lenmed Hospital for suspected head injuries.

Police spokeswoman Constable Thembeka Koago said: “A case of negligent driving was opened against her. She was the one driving the white Volkswagen Polo.”

Mbau allegedly lost control of the car she was driving and rolled off the highway while trying to avoid a black bag that was in her path.

Asked if any tests were conducted on Mbau during the investigations, Koaga said samples were taken for blood alcohol levels.

“That one cannot be confirmed at the moment. If blood is taken, we cannot know on the spot.

“The police take samples to Pretoria and it takes time.”

Yesterday, Mbau said she was physically “feeling fine” after the crash but claimed no one from the police had told her a case was opened against her.

“Negligent driving, how was I driving negligently? Nobody said anything to me,” she said

“I have been talking to the police, I do not know what you are talking about. ”

Mbau added: “I did not kill anyone and how negligent was I driving? And I hurt myself.

“It’s negligent when you kill someone or you break someone’s property or you mess up. I hurt myself in the middle of nowhere. ”

According to Koago, the actress will appear in court but she could not confirm which court as the investigating officer with the docket was not “available ”.
