Gang arrested for impersonating police

- Ratsatsi Pertunia

A GANG of three men who were pretending to be police officers and terrorising residents of Tembisa, East Rand, was arrested yesterday.

They were arrested near the busy Oakmoor train station in the early hours of yesterday morning after a tip-off from community members. The three, aged 25, 32 and 35, had allegedly just searched a man and taken R600 from him.

Gauteng police spokeswoman LieutenantColonel Katlego Mogale said police received information that the suspects were at a hostel in Tembisa. “Police uniforms, handcuffs, a holster and a toy gun were found in their possession,” she said.

Mogale said the police were not ruling out the possibility of linking the suspects to more crimes committed in the Tembisa area.

The three are expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of house robbery, robbery, impersonating police officers, possession of police items and possession of ammunition. –
