- Boitumelo Tshehle North West Correspondent

THE car that hit and killed two pedestrians while it was allegedly being driven by an SABC radio music compiler was “full of alcohol”.

According to North West police, a presenter and music compiler at the SABC ’ s radio station Motsweding FM lost control of his silver Audi after hitting another car.

A nine-year-old boy and a 33-year-old man were killed in the incident.

Police spokesman Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said the 30-year-old radio DJ will appear in court today.

He is to face two counts of culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving, drunken driving, failure to ascertain injuries and failure to render assistance where person(s) were killed.

Yesterday tears ran down the cheeks of Semakaleng Ntwaagae as she recalled events at the scene of the accident on Sunday morning.

“I overheard him (radio personality) talking on the phone saying: ‘ monna ke

bolaile batho... (hey man I ’ ve killed people)’.”

She said the driver then fled, leaving a female friend inside the car, which was allegedly “full of alcohol ”.

“I went to the car. The windscreen was smashed and there were lots of alcohol bottles in the car.

“I do not know who hit the windscreen, it could have been my son or my cousin,” she said.

Sowetan has learnt that there was an opened whiskey bottle lying in the back seat of the car, another whiskey bottle which was sealed was under the driver ’ s seat.

There were also cans of cider and beer bottles on the driver ’ s seat.

Police said the DJ turned himself in at the Mahikeng police station at around 11am on Sunday.

He was arrested and remanded in custody.

He is expected to appear in the Mmabatho Magistrate ’ s Court today.

Reliving the horrific collision, Ntwaagae said all she saw was the black and white blanket that her son was wearing that morning flying through the air.

When she turned around, the body of her son was lying on the ground.

Ntwaagae said the tragedy happened while they were walking back home from an all-night church service.

The out-of-control car then mowed down nine-year-old Paseka Ntwaagae and his uncle Motebele Ntwaagae, 33.

The deceased were walking behind Semakaleng and her 12-year-old daughter Kegomoditswe Ntwaagae on the pathway next to the road at around 5am.

“I was walking in front with my daughter when we suddenly heard a big bang. I screamed and when I turned I only saw the blanket he was wearing flying in the air,” she said.

His shoes were found scattered not far from where his body was lying. Motebele ’ s body was also lying metres away from Paseka ’ s.

Ntwaagae ’ s sister Tsheno Ntwaagae said all they wanted was the DJ to apologise.

“He killed our children and there is nothing he can do to bring them back. All we want is for him to take responsibility for his action,” she said.

Yesterday the family said they did not have the means to bury the two. No one in the family is employed.
