ANC swallowed EFF bait

- Moses Zola Manake

THE mayhem in parliament on Thursday night could have been avoided since it was public knowledge that the EFF had planned to disrupt the president ’ s State of the Nation address with the help of opposition parties.

Speaker Baleka Mbete could have given President Jacob Zuma time to respond to the question about “paying back the money ”.

Zuma could have acknowledged the question and pointed out that he would respond to it when he responded to other questions in March.

In that way the chaos that followed could have been avoided, or the EFF would have been exposed had it insisted on an answer.

I am worried sick that our parliament has descended to such low levels and there are no respected intellectuals in it to give direction and command respect from all MPs.

The jamming device that was used to block the usage of cellphones clearly indicates desperation on the side of those who are supposedly in control of the situation. They failed to use their heads to think, but used their hearts to try and arrest the situation.

The EFF ’ s existence is based on anarchy and you can ’ t stoop to its level to deal with the party.

The ANC should have maintained its cool because two wrongs don ’ t make a right.

The ANC played into the hands of the opposition and was distracted.

By the time the ANC wakes up, it will be too late and too close to the municipal elections.

And the electorate will check on the ANC ’ s delivery as promised in its manifesto, and the results will be costly for the ruling party.

As a member of the ANC who is in good standing, I urge our leaders to focus and use their heads to deal with the different situations that will confront them from time to time.

As a governing party, we cannot be distracted in a mission to better the lives of our people by people who represent anarchy wherever they surface.
