SABU DRUMMING AFTER A CRASH

- Mashoto Lekgau mashotol@sowetan.co.za

IN DECEMBER, Siyabulela “Sabu ” Satsha lay in ICU at a Johannesburg hospital fighting for his life after a horrific accident that claimed the life of singer Lihle Mbanjwa-Sowazi.

The two were travelling from a show in Kimberley, accompanied by Mbanjwa-Sowazi ’ s cousin, when the accident happened.

Satsha, who suffered serious head injuries, missed out on the recording of Joyous Celebration 19 in Soweto in December as he was hospitalised for three weeks, two of those in ICU.

Today Satsha, 25, sings praises to God for his miraculous recovery.

“God is great indeed. I got back to work and I started rehearsing two weeks ago.

“I can assure my fans that I am okay and I can play the drum how I want to. I am completely healed but there is a minor issue of a ligament in my leg but it will be okay, ” he enthused.

Satsha is rehearsing for gospel singer Ntokozo Mbambo ’ s live DVD recording on February 28.

Satsha said his family and friends had been great throughout.

Satsha rose through the ranks since his days playing with the worship team at Grace Bible Church in Soweto at nine-yearsold and later went on to drum for SABC1 show Gospel Gold where he was noticed for his talent.

He is regarded so highly in the international drumming community that instrument makers Vater manufactured a drum stick set called Sabu Satsha: Lord You Rule in his honour. Another company Sabian, endorsed him with cymbals.
