THE Gautrain ’ s service, suspended yesterday due to a damages on the tracks, will be operating according to schedule this morning.

This is the word from the operator, Gautrain Mbombela, after service was interrupted between Sandton and Rosebank yesterday.

Gautrain Mbombela company spokesperson Ian Findlay said: “The problem was not a cable theft issue but one of the set of points between Sandton and Rosebank could not operate.”

Findlay defined a point is the place on the tracks that operate the rails to allow a train to change tracks.

“It was not safe to operate. But the service should back to normal by this morning.”

Findlay said technicians discovered that the damaged points had to be replaced.

Yesterday, trains were running between Park Station and Rosebank, and on the Sandton to Pretoria and OR Tambo route, and commuters had to change to a bus and then get back on to the train for the rest of their journey.
