AFTER working for a private construction company for three years, Banele realised in 2010 that he could do better for himself. Using the knowledge he had gained, he ventured into the world of construction.

The Masisizane Fund provided finance to Extra Dimension in 2013 to purchase essential equipment and the company now employs 15 staff members working on various sites.

Banele said he was cautious to allow the business to grow at a manageable pace.

“One day we will move from building secondary roads to national roads but I never want to lose the fun factor.”

The company, based in Mthatha, Eastern Cape, does business for many municipalities in the province. It has to follow these steps when building new roads: cleaning and moving vegetation with an excavator, preparing the road bed with a grader and shaping the road and monitoring new roads for six months after they have been built.
