FAF de Klerk will take his time to decide whether to remain with the Pumas or move permanently to the Lions, where he has just completed an outstanding breakthrough Super Rugby season.

The scrumhalf, whose contract with the Pumas ends in October, is set to return to Nelspruit in time for the Currie Cup which starts early in August, but fans of both provinces are no closer to knowing where he’s headed.

His loan spell this season yielded five tries, while his displays, in concert with halfback partner Elton Jantjies, took the Lions agonisingly close to qual- ifying for the play-offs for the first time.

His choice appears to be to return to the union he played for as a junior, at under-19 and under-21 level, or rewarding the one that had faith in him after the Lions told him he was too small to make it in elite rugby.
