THE mother of two men accused of assaulting Tembisa Hospital staff says she was mistreated at the hospital.

Ntombibomvu Dlangamandla, 51, said the nurses were “rude” and left her lying in her own urine.

Dlangamandla was admitted to the hospital last week after she fell and broke her left leg.

She said she could barely feel her lower body.

“We asked the nurses for a lower bed for easy movement, but they just laughed at us.

“I could not go to the toilet by myself or feel the urine coming, so I asked for a bed pan.”

Dlangamandla said one of the nurses threw a bed pan at her.

“She was young and spoke to me in a rude manner. She stood there and watched me struggle with the bed pan,” she said.

“I would spend the night in the same bed pan until the following day when my daughter visited me. I slept in a soaked bed until my daughter changed me herself.”

Dlangamandla said she cried when she was told she would remain in hospital.

Dlangamandla said she returned to the hospital with five family members.

When they arrived there her son asked her to describe the nurse who mistreated her.

“Unaware of what he might do, I described her. The next thing I heard were nurses screaming,” she said.

“The other boys tried to intervene, but security guards came in and a big fight ensued.

“I did not want things to turn out the way they did. I wanted us to talk to the nurse so she could explain why she hated me so much.”

Dlangamandla’s sons Kwazi, 25, and Sphamandla, 21, appeared in the Tembisa Magistrate ’ s Court on Friday on charges of common assault and were released on warning.

The case was postponed to August 18.

Gauteng department of health spokesman Steve Mabona said the matter was closed. He said a redress was held between the parties involved and the department was satisfied with the way the incident was managed.
