AJAX OPEN TO SELLING SERERO
But agent denies exit talks
REPORTS in the Netherlands suggest midfielder Thulani Serero is one of three players Ajax Amsterdam are seeking to offload in the January transfer window, but as yet there are no takers for the Bafana Bafana star.
De Telegraaf newspaper says Serero, Nicolai Boilesen, who is set to join English Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers, and right-back Ricardo van Rhijn have all been told they can leave.
But the player’s representative, Mike Ntombela, said he knew nothing of an impending exit.
“I saw him when he was here [during the festive season] and he said nothing to me,” Ntombela said.
“These rumours have been going on for a while, it was the same before the season started.”
But Ajax say they will listen to offers from clubs and decide with Serero whether he should make the move away from Amsterdam.
“If a club wants to sign him, and he wants to play there as well, we will listen to that club and hear what their offer is,” Ajax spokesman Miel Brinkhuis said. “But in general it is not true that we want to sell him.”
Serero has lost his automatic starting position in the Ajax line-up this season, not helped by niggling injuries that have seen him in and out of the treatment room.
The 25-year-old has made just one start for the club all season, to go with nine substitute appearances, and was on the bench again when the team resumed their season after the winter break this past weekend.
He was the subject of a written offer from Greek side PAOK before the season started, but he opted to stay at Ajax instead.
