We are not giving up yet

- Tshepang Mailwane

IT WOULD be easy for Kaizer Chiefs players to give up and say the season is over, but Tsepo Masilela has urged his teammates to keep fighting or risk falling further down the Absa Premiership table.

Amakhosi will not be reading too much into Jomo Cosmos’ 5-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates at the weekend when they take on Jomo Sono’s men at FNB Stadium tonight (7.30pm).

After all, fourth-placed Amakhosi know how difficult playing relegation-threatened Cosmos can be, having been held to a goalless draw by a determined Ezenkosi in the first half of the season.

“We are not going to lie. We are not in a good position. We are not saying Sundowns will hit a rough patch, but we should just try and turn things around for ourselves,” said Masilela yesterday.

“At this stage of the season every team is dangerous. I did not see their game against Pirates, but I know Cosmos got a red card and maybe that’s one of the reasons they lost. But [tonight’s] game will be different and I think they will bring their A-game because they are fighting for their lives. It’s going to be a tough game because Cosmos are not a bad team.”

In their three defeats recently, Amakhosi have been poor in the final third of the pitch while their defenders have shot themselves in the foot by losing concentration at critical times.

“When you look at our overall performance, it’s not like effort from the players is not there.

“Sometimes you can say luck has not been on our side and sometimes you can say it’s [lack of] concentration.”
