MISS DECEMBER DESERVES SOME REWARD

Her time to win again

- RACING EDITOR

THE Var filly Miss December has not won for some time now but her drop in her merit-rating to just 79 should bring about a win in the near future and Race 4 at Scottsville, a FM 76 Handicap today over 1 000m could just be the race she has been looking for.

Miss December has done well off ratings much higher than her current one last year and is well drawn in stall No 1 so jockey Bernhard Fayd’Herbe should give her every chance of winning.

She does however get outpaced early and does her best work late so he will need to keep that in mind on his first ride aboard her.

The Fort Wood filly She’s A Fortress has won three of her last five starts so is clearly an improving sort but has taken a big step up the weights.

Apprentice Eric Ngwane will claim his 2.50 kg allowance which at least will reduce the eight-point penalty she got for her last win.

Trainer Paul Lafferty could get punters off to a good start as Gio Ponti’s Legacy in Race 1 could be ready to run his best race to date.

This Australian-bred two-year-old colt has had a problem at the gates and has been jumping slow but if he does jump on terms he should win.

The Dennis Drier yard has been in good form recently and the filly Anime will represent the yard in Race 2.

This Count Dubois filly was runner-up on debut at this course last month and will be looking to go one better this time.

The Lafferty-trained Beau Var in Race 3 showed nice promise on her debut in March but did not repeat that performance in her second start and nearly came down so the run should obviously be ignored.

Her danger looks to be the Drier colt Rocky Valley.

This Seventh Rock colt found a lot of betting support on debut and clearly let the side down when only fifth but is obviously talented and an improved run is very likely.

Jockey Anthony Delpech has many good rides at the meeting and Var Du Bois in Race 5 could be one of the best today.

This Var gelding has shown promise in winning two of his four starts to date.

Var Du Bois has been rested since winning in December but trainer Doug Campbell does not run them unless they are fit enough to win.

Jockey Anton Marcus has won three times aboard Humidor this season and he will be the main threat.

The Mike de Kock stable sends out the improving Diamond Coast in Race 6, a FM 75 Handicap over 1950m and she could be the banker bet for exotic permutations.

The Irish bred filly shows promise and could be on to better things in the future.

?? ?? Miss December’s fortunes could change. and she could win Race 4 at Scottsville today.
