KHULI SHOOTS BACK WITH FILM ABOUT COP ATTACK

- Lesley Mofokeng Motswako Picking Up The Pieces: The Khuli Chana Story.

KHULI Chana saw his life flash in front of his eyes in 2013 when he survived a hail of bullets in a horrible case of mistaken identity by police.

The star from Mahikeng found himself in the centre of a storm as stories swirled out of control about the shooting.

In the process he earned himself a place as a newsmaker, not for his lyrical prowess, but for the unfortunate incident. It was recently said that he reached a settlement with the police but no further details were released.

The hair-raising experience has now been immortalised on celluloid and coming to a big screen near you. This week, Chana announced that he was releasing

The documentary takes the viewer on a journey that 2013 was for Chana. From winning big at the Samas that year and other awards shows, having his music dominate on radio, being one of SA’s most loved personalities, to being involved in the shooting – and how he had to “pick up the pieces” of his life following the incident.

For the first time in two years, Chana speaks candidly about the incident and how it changed his life forever.

Chana comments: “Over the past two and a half years, this shooting incident has been the narrative of the media and the SAPS. Over the past year I found myself wanting to speak my truth and the more I spoke about it the more therapeutic it became.

“I decided to shoot the documentary for the people that have had such situations happen to them but had no voice to shed light on it. When something like this happens to you, you never get over it... speaking about it helps with the healing...”

Also featured are interviews with the likes of eNCA reporter Karyn Maughan who extensively covered the shooting, Daniel Witz who was the lead attorney on the criminal case and Sama CEO Refiloe Ramogase, who managed Chana at the time.

Its premiere is next Wednesday at Ster-Kinekor Mall of Africa.
