HIGHLANDS AND BAROKA IN TUSSLE OVER MATLOGA

- Tshepang Mailwane

ROOKIES Highlands Park and Baroka are entangled in a dispute over a player.

Highlands have taken Baroka to the PSL Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) over the Limpopo side’s signing of midfielder Richard Matloga. Baroka named Matloga as one of their new acquisitions

for the 2016-2017 Absa Premiership season last week, but Highlands Park claim the player is still theirs and that he is registered to play for the Ekurhulenibased club. According to Highlands Park director Sinky Mnisi, Matloga still has a year left on his threeyear contract. The highly rated attacking player is in pre-season training with Baroka. “Richard Matloga is our player until the matter is resolved. He is properly registered with us. “He has a three-year contract and he has [already] spent two years with us. The matter is with the PSL DRC,” Mnisi maintained. He added: “I have written a letter to the league to inform them he is our player. “They [Baroka] presume to have signed him. If Baroka wants the player they need to come discuss with us, it’s simple. “We don’t want to fight with them.” Baroka chief executive Morgan Mammila said the player’s contract with Highlands Park had expired last month. Matloga has signed a threeyear contract with the Limpopo club and Mammila believes they have a strong case. “We signed him based on the fact that he is a free agent,” he said. “According to the records that the PSL has, Matloga’s contract expired on June 30. That’s why they accepted the contract we put through to them. “We will engage with Highlands. We will speak to Larry [Brookstone], not Sinky Mnisi because he does not know what he wants. I also told the boy to speak to Highlands so that we can sort this matter out.” Baroka, meanwhile, were at Thabamoopo Hospital doing their 67 minutes for Nelson Mandela yesterday.
