Corrupt Zuma and Malema are ‘like father, like son’

- Sibongile Mashaba

DA LEADER Mmusi Maimane says South Africans should not trust President Jacob Zuma’s “son” and EFF leader Julius Malema.

Addressing people in Protea South, Soweto, yesterday, Maimane said corruption was at the core of the ANC.

“These people [ANC government] got to the top because of corruption.

“I am a father of two children and they are going to be like me. Even Jacob Zuma’s children [will be like him].”

Maimane said one could not be a leader of an organisation and be corrupt, but “your children are not”.

“It does not work like that. The child who said a couple of years ago ‘I will kill for Jacob Zuma’, last year [he said] I will kill Jacob Zuma,” Maimane said to cheers from the crowd.

Malema made the infamous statement in the Free State in June 2008 when he was ANC Youth League president.

“How do you trust someone like that? That man [Malema] is more corrupt than Zuma. These people [Zuma and Malema] are corrupt. Like father, like son.”

He said the DA had pushed for more than 700 corruption charged to be reinstated against Zuma.

“Now they are appealing to the Constitutional Court. We have beaten you (ANC) before and we’ll do it again.”

He urged people to put their trust in the DA and vote for the party’s candidates in the upcoming local government elections.

EFF national spokesman Mbuyiseni Ndlozi said they would not expect Maimane to understand “what political parental or guardianship is because Maimane has no political parents”.

“He is not a political product. He is Helen Zille’s curtain project to fool black people that DA loves blacks when actually it uses their votes to protect white privilege.

“The CIC Julius Malema lost everything in his life for his convictions and courts have proven that all was just a political plot to assassinate his character,” Ndlozi said.

Earlier in the day, Maimane donated blankets and toiletries to women at Othandweni Women’s Shelter in Hillbrow, Johannesburg, to mark Mandela Day.

Maimane was accompanied by Johannesburg mayoral candidate Herman Mashaba and other party delegates.
